Clean water in Almardà
A brief history of the Aguas de Almardà group.
This civil association was created in 1962 to supply non-potable water to residents of the Almardà beach area. At that time, over 90% of the homes were occupied by people who only lived there during the summer. In 2022, the association's board proposed selling the well to Aigües de Sagunt, and the proposal was approved by a majority of the members. Unfortunately, the city council failed to finalize the agreement with the notary (for approximately a year), and in June 2024, an extraordinary general meeting canceled the sale of the well. These recent events warrant further examination.
A common argument made by several members of the current board is that the Sagunto city council is desperate to "steal" the Almardà well from them. The reality is that the city council showed little interest in buying the well, leaving the matter unresolved for many months. The vote, which took place at the end of June, was held on a weekday around 6:00 PM—many people were at work at that time, and many others were unaware of the vote (remember that many owners in Almardà live far away in other parts of Valencia or in provinces outside the Valencian Community). The vote was approximately 100 in favor of not selling the well (only one person voted against). Our association has 577 members—100 votes is far from a comfortable majority. Within this group of voters are people who would vote differently today, tired of the mismanagement and its poor results. Many of the voters decided to continue the association based on exaggerated reports or simply misinformation spread by several members of the current board.
